Happy International Women’s Day

A reverberating testimony to “our culture of corruption” – leading to a high maternal mortality rate, a high infant mortality rate, neglect of the girl child, early marriage and its consequences, and the absence of basic amenities for the African woman. So what is “happy” for the African mother on this International Women’s Day? Mere servitude under the oppressive and suffocating grip of male-dominated power that be.

  • Maybe we should reflect on the failure of male dominance and give a chance to more women in governance.
  • Maybe maternal instincts would save the human race.
  • Maybe it is time to accept that women, by design, are more nurturing.
  • Maybe it is time to allow women to nurture us out of the oppression that we find ourselves in all over the world.

For me, I declare that power is more meaningful and nurturing in the hands of the “natural caretaker”. If the women have nurtured us individually, surely they can nurture us collectively as a nation.

So it is not a “Happy International Women’s Day”; it is ”Give women more seats at the table Day.
